Phil Mickelson will not be able to participate in the start of the LIV Golf season, which kicks off this week in Riyadh. The tournament, which will be played at night under the lights, will not feature the American player.

The six-time Majors champion announced on social media that he suffered a minor shoulder injury last week while training. The injury is not serious, and the left-handed player is expected to return next week in Adelaide for the second LIV Golf tournament.

“I am very disappointed to miss the start of the season, but I am looking forward to playing in Adelaide,” Mickelson said on social media.

In his message, Phil announced that he will be replaced by reserve player Ollie Schniederjans, who did not secure a spot in the LIV last autumn at the LIV School, but earned a place on the Asian Tour, where he won the International Series India tournament this Sunday.
