Jon Rahm suffered a minor scare just as he started the first round of the LIV Golf in Houston, the eighth tournament of the Saudi tour season that is being held from today until Sunday at the Golf Club named after the famous city in Texas. The Spaniard seemed to have a problem with a foot (he suffers a cut between the toes of one foot) just after hitting the ball from the tee of the par three on hole 7. He made a gesture of pain and limped off, until the broadcast cameras stopped focusing on him.

The champion from Barrika is playing his first tournament since the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where he missed the cut. Although the most worrying thing for Jon is that this physical problem, which he will surely be questioned about, comes just a few days before the start of the US Open, the third major of the season. Rahm has been in Pinehurst these days examining the terrain with the aim of improving his performance in the Majors, where he has not had outstanding performances this season.

This physical problem did not seem to overly affect the rest of his round as he responded with birdies on holes 8, 10, 12 and 13. For much of this Friday he was close to the top positions in the ranking. A double bogey on the par four of the 18th made him lose strokes and drop a few places in the ranking. But a great birdie putting from off the green on the 18th left him just a couple of strokes off the top 10. We will have to wait to see if the scare is just an anecdote or if he needs some kind of treatment for the rest of the tournament and to arrive in good condition at the US Open.
