The HyFlyers GC, captained by Phil Mickelson, announced this Tuesday the signing of Michael La Sasso, men’s individual champion of the NCAA in 2025, for the 2026 season of LIV Golf. The addition of the young American talent strengthens the team’s commitment to combining potential and proven leadership in their sports project.

La Sasso became university champion, becoming the second golfer from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) to achieve the title. His brilliant 2025 campaign included recognitions such as First Team All-American and First Team All-SEC, as well as being a finalist for the Jack Nicklaus awards for Division I Player of the Year and the Haskins Award. He also recorded the best stroke average in a season in Ole Miss history (69.48), a credential that supports his leap to professionalism.

“I am incredibly excited to join HyFlyers GC and take this step in my career,” said La Sasso after the agreement was made official. “It’s a unique opportunity to learn from one of the greatest players in history. LIV Golf allows me to compete at the highest level on a global stage and, moreover, in a team environment that I highly value,” he added.

The team captained by Mickelson left a good impression in 2025, eliminating the Fireballs GC in the quarter-finals of the Team Championship in Michigan. Phil, with several top 10 finishes, highlighted the immediate impact the new signing can have. “Michael is one of the most exciting young players in golf today. He has power, speed, and exceptional touch, but also a work ethic and team mentality that fit perfectly with HyFlyers GC,” he stated.

La Sasso joins a consolidated team that includes Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale, key players in the team’s competitive performance last season. Tringale scored in 10 of his 13 appearances and proved reliable in the ‘match play’ format, while Steele provided experience and solidity in crucial moments.

From the sports management, general manager Peter Davis emphasized that “Michael has shown he knows how to win at the highest level. His discipline, consistency, and composure under pressure suggest that his transition to professional golf will be natural.” With the arrival of La Sasso and the leadership of Mickelson, HyFlyers GC reinforces its ambition to continue growing in the LIV Golf lineup starting in 2026.
