Jon Rahm has reviewed different topics in his appearance this Wednesday before the media in the run-up to the LIV Golf in Nashville. Beyond confirming his participation and offering some interesting opinions about the US Open, the Spanish golfer has spoken about the negotiations between the PIF and the PGA Tour, the Olympics and even talked about country music.
Regarding the agreement that seems close between the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and the PGA Tour, Rahm trusts that the solution is about to come. “I think we are reaching a point where we hear that the conversations between the Tour and the PIF are underway. I hope that sooner rather than later a solution will be reached that allows the players from here to access the tournaments as is done almost everywhere and that there is a clear path. I know that LIV is a slightly different league, but the talent is there, and that is undeniable in my opinion, so there should be a way for all of us to earn certain points or a path towards the Majors, the Ryder Cup, etc.”, he assures.
As for the Olympics, his main goal is to win a medal for Spain. “David Puig went to the US Open with the added pressure of making the cut to be in the Olympics, which was his main goal. It was very fun to watch him after making six over par in the Friday round, quickly drop from par, shoot low and achieve it. It was very, very fun to watch. He is a great player and I am looking forward to sharing the stage with him. We are going to a fantastic place, a great city and a golf course where I think Tyrrell and I have some good memories. Maybe not from our golf, but the rest of the team played quite well. For me it is one of the best golf courses we have played or that I have played and a course that I am looking forward to returning to and I hope to be able to represent Spain as it should be and win a medal”.
Finally, Rahm admitted that he has never been a big fan of country music, although he revealed that there is a singer who has made him change his opinion. He says this when he is in Nashville, land of country music. “I have talked about this with Caleb Surratt (born in Tennessee) because all he listens to is country. Although I have been living in the United States for a long time, country is something that I have found very difficult to get used to until a year ago. Kelley always played a Luke Combs song for the kids at bath time, but there was so much background noise that I hadn’t heard it well. However, at East Lake, after a Friday or Saturday round where I played poorly, we were in a traffic jam, it was raining and “Beautiful Crazy” came on, and much of what he says in the song, is a lot of what me and the kids do in the morning. So when he says his day starts with coffee, when I get the kids out of bed when I’m at home and let her sleep a little, Kepa literally goes to the coffee maker, makes coffee with me and brings it to Kelley in bed. Then, when he says, and ends his day with a wine, Kelley and I very often have a glass of wine with dinner, like many other people.
