There were no questions to Tiger Woods about Jon Rahm and the negotiations between the PGA Tour and the PIF during the meeting he held with the media on Friday in the run-up to the PNC Championship. The truth is that there was a lot of anticipation and it even surprised, not only that he did not speak, but that no question was even asked about it. This Saturday, after the first round of the PNC Championship, there were questions about the matter at hand… and answers, although not very conclusive.
About Rahm’s departure to LIV Golf. “Without a doubt, it has been a topic of conversation among the players who are on the PGA Tour council. We are trying to reach an agreement with all the entities we have on the table. SSG (the American investor) has now entered the negotiations. But we still have until the 31st (of December) to close a deal,” Woods explained.
About the impact that Jon’s departure caused, Tiger chose to stay on the same line of little concreteness. “Well, over the years there has been a lot of talk about the departure of certain players. It has been speculation until it happened. There have always been rumours of names that were going to leave and did not leave, whether they materialised or not… So we assumed that they were only speculations until they happened,” he pointed out.
Tiger’s vague response can be understood in many ways. Each one, in fact, will have their own interpretation, but the total absence of negative criticism and depth in his reflection, indicates that we are in times where conversations have taken flight, negotiations are underway and no one wants to put their foot in it with misplaced words.
Precisely, in this sense, Tiger still trusts that a definitive agreement can be reached before December 31. “Our timeframe is December 31, our deadline. That was established in early June and has not changed.”
Regarding the role of SSG in the negotiation, Tiger did hint that the deal is going well. “Obviously, they have a lot of capital and many renowned investors who are in the same line as us. We are all going in the right direction,” he specified.
