Ana Peláez (-11) has won for the first time in her career the LPGA Tour card. The golfer from Malaga has handed in a card of 71 strokes on the sixth and last day of the Q Series, the grand finale of the American School, and has finished in the 27th position tied. Specifically, she will have the thirtieth position in terms of entry into tournaments through her school category.
Obviously, the mere fact of having playing rights is a step forward, it can be classified as a success and the player from Río Real must be satisfied. However, the joy is not complete, since the thirtieth position in the School, if we go by what happened last season, does not allow entry into all the tournaments of 2024, far from it. She will only have access to some and will need to do very well in those few opportunities she has to improve her situation through the re-rankings that are carried out during the season. The door is already open, but Ana still needs to kick it down.
It is even more frustrating if we take into account how Peláez’s final round was at the Crossings course in Alabama, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail club. She started with a birdie on the 3rd, signed a bogey on the 6th and, after six straight pars, gave a giant boost with an eagle on hole 13, to which she added a great birdie on the 16th. Thus, the Andalusian stood on the last two holes of the day with a partial of -13. However, a bitter end with two bogeys made her lose many positions. Specifically, that round finish has cost her twelve positions in the first entry list of next year. She has gone from the 18th position, which allowed her to enter almost everything, to the 30th position, where the doors are much more closed.
Be that as it may, Ana has already managed to get her foot in the LPGA and now she will have to earn her continuity by playing very well in the first tournaments. On the other hand, nothing that is going to scare a warrior like her, who got the Ladies European Tour card, a circuit in which this year she has finished in the fifth position of the Race to Costa del Sol, winning the first tournament she played that year.
The winner of the Q Series was the Australian Robyn Choi (-2), with a three-stroke lead over the Japanese Mao Saigo and the Korean So Mi Lee. Among those who have obtained the card are the German Polly Mack, the American Mina Harigae, the Israeli Laetitia Beck, Jennifer Song, Lucy Li, Aline Krauter, Benedetta Moresco, Mariajo Uribe or Trichat Cheenglab, the champion of the Race to Costa del Sol.
On the contrary, those who have been left out of the card positions are the Indian Diksha Dagar, the French Pauline Roussin, the Japanese Saki Baba or the Moroccan Ines Lacklalech.
