The fourth day of the Final Stage of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School has brought mixed news. The positives are that Azahara Muñoz and Julia López are in card positions and that Blanca Fernández has made the cut and has left herself an opportunity for Monday. The bad news is that Carla Tejedo has not made the cut and therefore has no chance of securing the card.
Let’s start with the good news. Azahara (-5) has delivered a 70-stroke card on the Falls Course and is in 24th place. This means that tomorrow, Monday, in the final round, it will depend on her to return to the LPGA Tour. On the other hand, Julia López (-4) shot 69 today on the Crossing course and continues her upward trend. The player from Málaga is now among the top 25. Specifically, she is just one stroke over the target.
The golfer from Benahavís has once again demonstrated her ability to reduce strokes on the course. She made five birdies and an eagle but was heavily penalised by a triple bogey on the 18th hole, the ninth of her round which started on the 10th. It’s important to highlight her ability to recover by making four under par in the last nine holes after a triple bogey.
Additionally, Blanca Fernández (-2) signed a great 69-stroke card on the Crossings course and continues to climb the leaderboard. For now, she has comfortably made the cut and is just two strokes away from the top 25. It’s important to remember that the top 25 and ties earn the LPGA Tour card. Only 18 holes remain. Blanca made four birdies and a solitary bogey, showcasing her solidity once again.
The downside of the day was Carla Tejedo (+8), who missed out with a 73-stroke card today. Her round was like a roller coaster. She tried until the end, gave it her all, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to make the cut. She made four birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey. She finished six strokes off the cut.
Today, the cut was made with the top 70 and ties, while tomorrow the top 25 and ties will earn the card. Azahara, Julia, and Blanca are going for it.
The tournament leader is Japan’s Chisato Iwai (-20), with a one-stroke lead over compatriot Miyu Yamashita (-19) and two over France’s Pauline Roussin (-18).
