The FM Championship kicked off this Thursday at TPC Boston with three players sharing the lead and good news for Spanish golf courtesy of Azahara Muñoz (-4). The player from Málaga delivered a solid four-under-par round that places her near the top 10 (tied for 13th place) after the first 18 holes of the tournament, confirming the good form she has been showing in recent weeks.
The player from Málaga shone with consistent play from tee to green and, above all, with a reliable putter that allowed her to capitalise on the birdie opportunities she created. With this opening round of 68 strokes, featuring four birdies and no mistakes, she is in a prime position to try to reach the weekend in contention for victory despite the high level of competition both in terms of scores and names.
At the top of the leaderboard, there was a true birdie fest. American Allisen Corpuz (-7), South Korean Sei Young Kim (-7), and English Jodi Ewart Shadoff (-7) share the lead with rounds of 65 strokes. Corpuz, the US Women’s Open champion in 2023, finished with four birdies in her last six holes, while Ewart Shadoff strung together a final streak of four consecutive birdies to join the leaders.

Behind them, Nelly Korda (-5), seeking to return to victory after a historic 2024 but an inconsistent 2025, debuted in Boston with a 67 and remains well-positioned alongside players like Minjee Lee (-5) and Céline Boutier (-5).
The day, however, was more challenging for the other two Spanish representatives in the tournament. Carlota Ciganda (PAR) and Julia López (PAR) both carded even-par rounds, a result that leaves them on the edge. The provisional cut is set at one under par, so both will need to push in the second round to ensure their presence over the weekend.
