Carlota Ciganda and Álvaro Alonso are no longer working together. The golfer and caddie have decided to end their professional relationship after the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, an LPGA Tour event that took place last week where the Navarrese player finished in 27th place after an excellent start. It was a mutual decision made without any bitterness. They have parted on good terms.
Both agreed that it was time to start a new chapter in their careers. It’s about getting fresh air, seeking another path that is positive for both. They have had three years of a very positive relationship. Both end content and grateful, convinced that they have grown during this time together. They have won three tournaments on the Ladies European Tour (Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, Estrella Damm, and Aramco Team Series in Florida), although their main success was undoubtedly the 2023 Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín, with that decisive point achieved by Carlota against Nelly Korda. On the other hand, the regret they have is not having been able to win on the LPGA Tour.
Carlota only has words of gratitude towards Álvaro. “There has been no problem. He is a very good guy and a great caddie. We have ended well. It has been three very good years. I have learned a lot, he has helped me a lot, and I take away all the good. It’s just that right now I feel I need something different,” she explains to TenGolf.
The player from Ulzama is currently in the process of searching for a new caddie. She has already spoken with some candidates, and the idea is for them to be in charge of the bag for the Asian tour that will take place in the coming weeks. Carlota plans to play in South Korea in two weeks, Malaysia, and Riyadh, the last tournament of the Aramco Ladies European Tour series. After that, she will have the final tournaments of the LPGA and the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, which will be played at the Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf from November 28 to December 1. Initially, Carlota’s idea is to work with a caddie who has a lot of experience and a significant resume on the LPGA Tour.
