The South Korean Somi Lee (-8) is the first leader of the CME Group Tour Championship, the final tournament of the season on the LPGA Tour where the top sixty players of the American circuit gather. Lee, this year’s winner of the pairs tournament, has flirted with perfection in her debut at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples. She hit all the fairways and only missed two greens. Even so, she made a bogey on the last hole to reduce her lead from three to two strokes.
Somi Lee has reached the LPGA Tour grand finale in tenth position, but even now, victory would not give her the title in the ranking, as Jeeno Thitikul (-5), leader of the Race to CME Globe, has it perfectly under control after a great start of 67 strokes. She is in third position, three strokes off the lead and two from the second position held solely by Allisen Corpuz (-6).
Carlota Ciganda (-3) has delivered a notable performance. She has positioned herself well and, certainly, has managed to stay in the fight for victory. She is just three strokes from the second position and two from the third. She is fully in the mix. Once again, she has played very consistently and solidly from tee to green. She has missed very few shots, although she couldn’t avoid a bogey on her opening hole. Carlota remains in contention for victory with three rounds ahead and no cut.
The Number 2 in the ranking and Thitikul’s main rival is Miyu Yamashita (-2). She hasn’t started badly, but she has already fallen behind the Number One. She cannot afford another round of this calibre. If today was the bad day, she will still have chances to win the Race.
