Ana Peláez (-10) is on the verge of securing her LPGA Tour card for 2024. The golfer from Málaga signed off on a great round of 68 strokes at the Crossings course in Alabama this Tuesday, taking a giant leap in the Q Series, the final of the American circuit school.
With 18 holes left to complete the six rounds stipulated for this final, Peláez has positioned herself in 27th place in the ranking, with a margin of three strokes above the cut-off that currently marks the difference between those who will get the card and those who will fall short. Remember, it’s the first 45 and ties who will achieve the goal.
Peláez started her fifth round with a lot of strength. In the first three holes, she had already signed two birdies. She made one more on the 16th, just before signing her only stumble of the day. She played in a very orderly manner and was signing pars, although in the end she still had a final push left. She scored two more birdies on holes 5 and 7 and positioned herself at that tremendously hopeful -10 before tomorrow’s final round.
Obviously, she cannot be complacent. A par round might even suffice, but the Spaniard would do well to seek as many birdies as possible to avoid last-minute suffering. It’s the day to play intelligently, which doesn’t mean being conservative. Tomorrow she plays again at the Crossing course, a course she seems to have gotten the hang of, as she has accumulated a total of ten under par in her last two rounds, her current result.
As for the ranking, Korean So Mi Lee (-27) leads, with a two-stroke lead over Australian Robyn Choi and three over Japanese Mao Saigo. Also at the top are German Polly Mack, Mina Harigae, Aline Krauter or Lucy Li.
