Korda continues making history and Carlota achieves the goal

Since she added six titles in the first half of the year, the two-time Major champion had been seeking in vain to join the select club of players who have won seven times in a single season. She has achieved it in the penultimate event of the year and arrives unstoppable at the final event, the CME Tour Championship.

With this victory, she becomes the first American player since 1990 to achieve seven victories in the same year, matching the wins of Babe Zaharias (1951 and 1952), Whitworth (1973), Beth Daniel (1990), Karrie Webb (2000), Lorena Ochoa (2008), and Yani Tseng (2011). It had been more than a decade since any player had accumulated so many victories in a single season. However, the absolute and almost unreachable record is held by Mickey Wright with 13 back in 1963.

This Sunday, Nelly started one stroke behind Charley Hull. In the first nine holes, the American couldn’t take off with two birdies and two bogeys. However, from the 11th hole onwards, a storm of birdies ensued, and with five consecutive birdies, she ended the discussion and secured the tournament with a three-stroke advantage over the Englishwoman, who signed a modest round of one over par, Jin Hee Im (-11) and Weiwei Zhang (-11).

Carlota Ciganda (-7) will also attend the final event of the year. The Navarrese needed a good result to improve the 63rd position she held in the Race to CME Globe and get into the top 60 who play the grand final of the year in the LPGA.

She did it in extremis and at the last moment. With excitement until the last second. She was comfortably within the cut as she was in the top ten of the tournament, but a bogey on the 17th hole added a lot of suspense. She fell exactly to the 60th position in the Race. The Spaniard managed to hold her ground and secured a par on the last hole, keeping her within the target.

With her qualification, it is now twelve consecutive seasons playing the final playoff of the season in the LPGA. The consistency of the Navarrese player is beyond doubt. It is clear that it has not been her best season, but even so, she will not miss the great event that wraps up the year.

Nancy López (-2) was the first player to miss out on the final, finishing the year in 61st place. The Mexican started this Sunday within the top ten, but a round of five over par caused her to lose positions down to 32nd place. Insufficient to surpass Carlota’s good performance.
