Sunday, 31 August 2025 will forever remain in the memory of Miranda Wang (-20), a young Chinese golf prospect, aged 26, who has opened her record in the LPGA with an unforgettable victory at the FM Championship during her rookie season on the US women’s tour. With a final round of 70 strokes at TPC Boston, she managed to edge out the World Number One, Jeeno Thitikul (-19), by just one stroke, giving a huge boost to her burgeoning career on the circuit.
Although Wang started as the leader and undisputed favourite after her rounds of 66, 67, and 65 strokes in the first three days of competition, which allowed her to tackle the last 18 holes of the week with a three-stroke lead, she had to work hard to prevent Thitikul from denying her the trophy. The Thai player managed to come back and take the lead in the second half of her round, but Miranda responded with composure after missing a one-metre birdie putt on the 12th and sending her ball into the bunker on the 15th.

At the crucial moment, a thrilling tournament finish, Wang responded by sinking a two-metre birdie putt on the 17th, regaining the lead thanks to a bogey from Jeeno, and closing her round with a solid par on the 18th, making her the seventh rookie to win an LPGA tournament this season, an unprecedented streak, and the 23rd winner in 23 tournaments in 2025, with no one achieving multiple victories. “I hope this is the first of many, I will keep working hard for it… This is a dream come true,” said the champion, a Duke graduate and a key player in the NCAA title in 2019.
Rose Zhang (-15), top 5 and Wang‘s group mate in the final round, was one of those responsible for ‘dousing’ the champion in champagne to celebrate the victory, while Sei Young Kim (-17) and Andrea Lee (-16) finished third and fourth, respectively. Julia López (-8), with 71 strokes on Sunday, dropped five places to finish tied for 28th, while Azahara Muñoz (-4) closed her disastrous weekend with her second consecutive round of 74 strokes to be tied for 45th.
