Carlota Ciganda (-6) has delivered a card of 69 strokes in the third round of The Annika Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, the last regular tournament of the LPGA Tour this season and, therefore, the last chance to save the card and qualify for the grand final of the circuit. The Navarrese is in the latter.
Her one-under-par score this Saturday places her in eleventh position, tied with Minjee Lee, Albane Valenzuela, Lilia Vu, Linn Grant, and Hyo Joo Jang. With this provisional result, Carlota would rise to the sixtieth position in the RACE to CME Globe, or in other words, she would make it into the coveted final right on the number.
However, the final feeling is bittersweet, as the golfer from Ulzama has been very close to securing that qualification. Indeed, with just one hole to go, things looked very promising. She was three under for the day, in sixth place. The 18th hole proved costly, with a double bogey that dropped her five positions.
The positive side is that she depends on herself to get into the grand final of the LPGA. She has reached the last round in Florida with the upper hand. The downside is that she will still have to play very well on Sunday because she has little room for error. Be that as it may, she is fighting in a spectacular way.
At the top, the battle does not cease. Charley Hull and Nelly Korda. Nelly Korda and Charley Hull. The Englishwoman goes to bed as the solo leader with -12, with a one-stroke advantage over Korda and the Chinese Weiwei Zhang, who has joined the party with an exceptional card of 62 strokes this Saturday. The victory should be among these three.
