The fifth and final round of the Final Stage of the LPGA Tour School, known as the Q Series, could not be completed this Monday as planned. Bad weather has prevented it. The torrential rains that have fallen over Alabama have flooded the Crossings course and rendered it unplayable. No player has been able to get past their ninth hole, and the last matches have barely completed two.
The idea is to finish this Tuesday, but the weather forecast is not promising. More rain is expected, and it seems difficult for the course to recover to be in minimum conditions. In fact, in Alabama, they are already considering the possibility of finishing on Wednesday, a significant delay that would cause problems for some players.
Most had already booked their return flights for Tuesday, which would force them to change their tickets, in addition to extending their stay in Alabama, which means an increase in expenses that are not always easy to bear. It is not yet known if the LPGA would be willing to lend a financial hand if it ends on Wednesday.
Additionally, some golfers like Blanca Fernández are also participating in the Final Stage of the Ladies European Tour School, which starts next Sunday. If it finishes on Wednesday, her change of plans would be even more traumatic, as she had a flight that same day to travel from Madrid to Marrakesh, the venue for the LET School Final. She would have to change the flight and would not arrive in Morocco, at best, until Thursday, meaning she would only have Friday and Saturday to practice on the two courses where the Final is played.
Be that as it may, it’s what Mother Nature has in store, and there’s no choice but to adapt. As for the results, Julia López (-7) had started the final round brilliantly, with three birdies in the first seven holes. For her, for example, the stoppage has been a setback. Nonetheless, she would currently have the LPGA card. She is ranked 20th alone, with a one-stroke margin over the cut of the top 25 and ties.
Precisely, on that limit, which is currently six under par, is Azahara Muñoz (-6). The player from Málaga is in 21st place with a one-under-par score in six holes, with two birdies and a bogey.
Finally, Blanca Fernández (-1) has it quite difficult, but there is still room, and no one can stop her from dreaming of a great comeback. She is one over par after nine holes. She will need a five-under-par score in the last nine to give herself a chance. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible either.
The lead in the Final Stage is held by Japanese player Chisato Iwai (-21), with two strokes over Miyu Yamashita (-19).
