Es Number One in the world with almost five points ahead of the second place. She has won five tournaments out of the last 28 she has played. During this time, she has also finished six times in second place, with 18 top 5s and 23 top 10s. In other words, more than once every three tournaments, she has finished in first or second position since the end of 2024. Right now, she has seven consecutive top 10s in a sequence that includes two victories and two second places.
The first name that automatically comes to mind after reading this string of fabulous results is Scottie Scheffler. Indeed, it seems like the service record of the Texan in recent times, however, it belongs to someone else. It is Jeeno Thitikul, the great dominator of women’s world golf. The Thai golfer, who has not yet turned 23, has been in extraordinary form for some time, to the point of starting to withstand such a demanding comparison as that of Scheffler.
Thitikul has naturally taken over from Nelly Korda, as imperial in 2024 as irregular in 2025. Right now, there is more than a four-point advantage between the two. They are Number One and Two, a situation the American wants to reverse, starting with her victory in the LPGA season-opening champions’ tournament. In any case, it won’t be easy because Thitikul’s solidity is bombproof.
The Asian player resembles Scheffler in that she doesn’t make much noise, isn’t particularly flashy, and doesn’t have a strong connection with the crowd. She is calm, composed, and rarely makes a fuss on the course. She celebrates victories with the naturalness of someone who has made it their daily bread. In fact, there is no sense of dominance even among her own peers.
“She is a great player. She has enormous consistency. It’s true that maybe she hasn’t had one of those years where you say extraordinary, winning a lot, but she’s always there.” These are the words of Angel Yin. We repeat in case anyone was distracted in the room: she has won five times in the last 28 tournaments. If that’s not winning a lot, let Buddha come down and see it.
Time will tell if she really withstands this comparison with Scheffler or if she eventually falls off. It’s not easy to find such long periods of domination in women’s golf as those of Tiger Woods, Scheffler, or even Dustin Johnson. The female Number Ones are more sporadic, at least since Annika Sorenstam, Lorena Ochoa, Yani Tseng, and perhaps Jin Young Ko, although the Korean didn’t last too long. The rest come and go. In fact, Thitikul, who climbed to the top of the world rankings in August 2025, has 28 consecutive weeks and is already the ninth-best streak in history.
Thus, right now she is indeed the Scheffler of women’s golf and deserves the title, now it’s time to see if she can maintain this for the four years the American has already been better than anyone else in her sport.
The first real test for Thitikul comes this week with the Honda LPGA Thailand, the tournament that really kicks off the season on the American circuit after the champions’ appetizer in Florida. Now the good stuff starts and it practically doesn’t stop. Thitikul plays at home, in a tournament that is now in its 19th edition and which she has never won, although her results are outstanding.
In her last four appearances, she has been 3rd twice, 2nd once, and 8th the other time. These have been her four participations as a professional. Her two previous appearances were as an amateur. In 2019 she finished in 54th place and in 2017, at just 14 years old, she was 37th. That was when Jeeno went by the name Atthaya.
Obviously, Thitikul is the big favourite to win this week, although she claims she arrives a bit short on preparation. “I’ve been training a lot with my team for four weeks, but I feel I need more time. In December, I couldn’t practice as much as I would have liked due to some wrist discomfort and I’m not completely comfortable with the irons to the green. We’ve been working on correcting an excess of fade, but I don’t feel totally confident at the moment. Even so, I’m going to give it my all to win,” she explained.
The tournament takes place at the Siam Country Club in Pattaya, in Chonburi. It lasts four days, with a total of 72 golfers participating and no cut. Among the participants are Julia López and Carlota Ciganda, who will make their debut on the LPGA Tour. The Navarrese, moreover, debuts a caddie this season.
