We were walking down the 18th hole street and I told Luis to lift his chin and that he had to come out of his first round in an Open and in a Major with his head held very high. He was still mulling over those three putts from the 17th hole, but the truth is that he can be proud of what he has done.
I am exhausted. I have fulfilled the best version of a caddie and I came in the morning to see the course. I walked the 18 holes to note any detail, any information. And then, of course, the 18 holes with the bag on my shoulder. A slog.
What I have to reproach myself is that I should have helped him a little more on the greens. I would have liked to be more useful to him in that area of the game, but the truth is that today I found it very difficult to see the falls. At the end of the day it is true that there was not much light, but before I was not fine in this aspect either.
On hole 4, for example, Luis saw the fall at the edge of the hole and it seemed to me that it was a little more. He was right and he missed the putt. I reproach myself for that, I am angry that I could not help him a little more.
Of everything else, I am happy. It has been a very intense day in which I have tried to help him as much as possible, we have talked a lot, even about technical aspects and I have also tried to distract him when the time came.
Be that as it may, a great day of golf, a very good result and the chin held high.
