The Staysure Marbella Legends opens this week at Aloha Golf the global season of the Legends Tour. It will be the first event of the 2026 calendar and also, why not, the opportunity for one of our own to claim victory at the start of the season. It’s always comfortable at home.

The Malaga event brings together many of the most recognisable names on the European senior circuit, with a particularly strong national representation. Six Spanish players will be on the course: José María Olazábal, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Juan Quirós, Santi Luna, Miguel Ángel Martín and Carlos Suneson.

The tournament consolidates Marbella as the starting point of the international circuit calendar and also offers an added incentive for the local public: the real possibility that the first trophy of the year will stay at home.

José María Olazábal leads the Spanish delegation. Double champion of the Masters Tournament, captain of the European team in the historic victory at Medinah in 2012 and member of the Hall of Fame, the Basque remains one of the major attractions of the circuit.

In this edition, the man from Hondarribia will have special support: Álvaro Quirós will carry his bag during the week. The man from Cádiz, recently operated on and still not competing, already told TenGolf that he offered to accompany him on his return to Andalusia.

“I offered to accompany him, as he was coming to my land, to Andalusia. After my operation, I can’t play and I was very excited to go with him. It seemed like a great opportunity to be with the master in a golf environment,” he explained.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez will compete in his homeland, a factor that always adds an extra component to his participation. The man from Malaga has 45 international victories —21 on the DP World Tour and 17 on the Champions Tour, including three senior Majors— and is one of the great historical figures of Spanish golf.

In the first edition of the tournament, he finished in fourth place, coming close to victory. This time he returns with the aim of starting the season by lifting the trophy in front of his home crowd.

Juan Quirós, with four titles on the Legends Tour, brings character and trajectory. Santi Luna has several victories on the European senior circuit and represents competitive consistency. Miguel Ángel Martín and Carlos Suneson complete a delegation that combines experience and knowledge of the circuit.

The global calendar of the Legends Tour kicks off at Aloha and from the start, Spanish golf will have clear opportunities to set the pace in this season opener.
