Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela (-13) continues to impress. The Tenerife golfer secured his second victory on the Alps Tour in his last three outings this Saturday. He triumphed at the Tunisian Golf Open, a tournament held at the The Residence Golf Tunis course, with a masterful final round. He delivered a card of 62 strokes, ten under par, for a total of -13, leaving everyone else without an answer. The championship, the fourth of the Alps in 2025, had to be reduced to 36 holes due to strong winds causing significant delays over the first two days.
You can imagine that today’s round was like a Formula One sprint race. It was practically like a qualifying lap in a preliminary. There was a lot of parity, many players with chances, and it was about making birdies without looking back or thinking about tomorrow. That’s exactly what Álvaro did. He started in a stellar fashion, with five birdies in the first six holes and added three more on holes 8, 10, and 11. From there, with the title already in play and while some contenders faltered, the golfer from Las Américas stepped on the accelerator even harder to secure two more birdies on 16 and 18 and clinch the tournament.
Italian Jacopo Vecchi Fossa (-11) was his main rival in this final round. At least, he was the one who came with the most chances towards the final stretch of the tournament. In fact, he even took the lead ahead of Álvaro at one point in the final round. However, a rather inconsistent finish, with four birdies and three bogeys in the last eight holes, prevented him from keeping up with the Spaniard. Tied in second place with Vecchi Fossa was Andalusian Rocco Repetto (-11). Another great performance from the young player. It’s his third consecutive top 6 in the Alps.
The excellent Spanish performance in Tunisia was completed with the fifth place of Mario Galiano (-7), another who was fighting for victory this Saturday until he was abruptly halted by two consecutive double bogeys, and the eighth place of Víctor García Broto (-6). After the first round, which was barely completed between Thursday and Friday, the lead was held by Italian Alessandro Nodari (-5), followed by Vecchi Fossa and Repetto one stroke behind, and Álvaro, Galiano, and amateur Paul Franquet two strokes behind.
With his second victory in four tournaments played, Hernández Cabezuela is set to quickly regain the lead in the Alps Tour order of merit. The top five at the end of the season will advance to the HotelPlanner Tour, the main goal for the Canary Islands player. He is now on track. Additionally, a third victory would allow him to move up quickly to the second division. A spectacular horizon opens up for him.
It is also the third consecutive victory for the Armada in the Alps Tour, as between Álvaro’s two wins, Javier Barcos achieved a great triumph in Egypt. As it stands, three of the four Alps tournaments in 2025 have ended with a Spanish victory. The order of merit is filled with Spanish flags at the top. Álvaro is first, Javier Barcos occupies third place, Rocco Repetto is fourth, and Mario Galiano is in seventh position.
