First Spanish sensation in the Alps Tour in 2024. It has only taken two tournaments. This Tuesday, José Antonio Sintes (-16), an 18-year-old Canarian golfer who turned 18 on January 2 and is still an amateur, has won the Red Sea Little Venice, a tournament that took place on courses B and C of the Sohkna Golf Club, at the foot of the Suez Canal, in Egypt.
Sintes achieved the victory with three rounds of 68, 66 and 66 strokes. It’s his first professional win in a tournament valid for the world ranking in just three attempts. He played the Fred Olsen Alps de La Gomera in 2023 and finished in 22nd place and also participated last week in the Ein Bay Open, the first test of the year of the Alps, where he missed the cut.
Sintes showed nerves of steel to take the victory in a very tight finish. He won with a one-stroke advantage over Italian Enrico Di Nitto, Austrian Lukas Lipold and fellow Spaniard Eduard Rousaud, who had the victory or the playoff against Sintes in his hand, but ended with a bogey on hole 18.
Sintes has completed an exceptional performance during the 54 holes. In fact, he only made one mistake. He made a double bogey on hole 4 on the first day and from there he signed 18 birdies and 35 pars. Sensational tournament full of solidity and composure despite his extraordinary youth. He won by making a stratospheric comeback. He started the last day from the eighth position, two strokes behind a solid trio of leaders: Liparrelli, Lipold and Mario Galiano.
Sintes’ victory is the tip of the iceberg of a sensational Spanish performance. In addition to Rousaud’s second place, we must note the fifth place of Borja Martín (-14), the seventh of Jorge Maicas (-13) and the eleventh position of Mario Galiano, who on the first day signed a scorecard of 62 strokes, and Ramón Clavell, both with -12. Completing the top 20 in Egypt is Víctor García Broto (-10).
