The end of the 13th edition of the Alps de Las Castillas couldn’t have been more interesting. The birdie gave the victory to the Madrid native Antonio Hortal on the 18th hole. With a quadruple tie at 15 under par, all eyes were on him, and with the decision to have a clear shot, Antonio Hortal signed a three for 67 strokes, 16 under par overall, marking Hortal’s first victory on the circuit and his first in two years. “Very happy, I played quite solidly, I started 4 under on the first nine and then had a slump in the middle of the round. I finished with three birdies to win by one. I checked the live scoring on the 18th and knew I had to make three to win, and I made a good putt. The first thing I thought about was all the work this takes, and I’m very happy,” commented an emotional Hortal.
The recent winner plans to continue competing in Madrid and nationally for the rest of the season “unless I find a sponsor to support a full schedule.”
Italian Filippo Bergamaschi delivered a flawless 8 under par card with 4 birdies and two eagles. 64 strokes, combined with his previous rounds of 66 and 71, lifted him to a shared second place with two Spaniards, Javier Barcos and Esteban Vázquez. The Navarrese player started his round with a bogey, which he later recovered with three birdies and an eagle on the first 9. Three more birdies on the second nine and a finishing bogey prevented him from taking the lead.
With two second places, in La Gomera and Las Pinaillas, and a victory in New Giza, Javier Barcos takes the lead in the Alps Tour 2025 Order of Merit with Jacopo Vecchi Fossa in second and Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela in third. Javier Calles and Quentin Debove close the top 5.
A commendable performance by the amateur from Oviedo Esteban Vázquez Martín, tied for second with -15 thanks to a third round of 66 strokes with six birdies and without making a single mistake throughout the round. Emilio Cuartero Blanco and Jorge Maicas finished tied for eleventh at 12 under par, and David Salgado, in the shared 14th place with -11. Asier Aguirre and Pedro Oriol close the top 20 with 9 under par.
