What Pablo Alperi is doing is getting very serious…

Pablo Alperi (-12) finished in second place at the Dreamland Open, an Alps Tour event that ended this Tuesday at the Dreamland Golf Club course in Egypt. The 22-year-old Asturian golfer carded three rounds of 68 strokes for a total of -12 and finished just two shots behind the champion, the Frenchman Maxime Legros (-14).

Really, judging by the results, it seems Alperi and Legros played a different tournament to the rest, since third place finished at -7, far from where the win was being decided.

We can say Alperi’s form is very serious, as this is his third consecutive second place in just 10 days. You couldn’t knock on the door of victory any more often or more insistently. He was runner-up at the Villa Paradiso Alps Open in Italy two weeks ago, was second again last week at the Campeonato de España de Parejas at Izki Golf, teaming up with his coach, Jordi García del Moral, and now he has once again finished second on the Alps Tour. This is no coincidence. He’s playing well and just needs to keep pushing until he breaks the door down.

The Gijón-born golfer, who started playing golf in Castiello and is currently based in Sotogrande, was the only one who could put Legros’s victory in doubt today. The truth is he never got very close, but his comeback was fantastic. He went out in the featured group alongside the Frenchman and after two holes he was a stratospheric eight shots behind. However, without losing faith, hunting birdies and with the small doubts the leader experienced, Pablo managed to get to three shots behind with four holes to play.

On the 15th both made birdies and Pablo added another at 17, squeezing the Frenchman’s lead down to two shots with one hole to play. In the end, that would be the final classification. Two-shot lead and solo second place for the Spanish amateur champion in 2024.

Obviously, Alperi is in fine form. You could say it’s all 2026 for him. He has played five Alps events, has recorded two runner-up finishes, a fourth and his worst finish has been 27th. This magnificent run has placed him third in the Alps Tour individual rankings, just ahead of fellow Spaniard Mario Galiano and closing in on the second-placed Irishman Robert Moran. The Italian Andrea Romano leads, winner of two tournaments this year and third this week in Egypt.

Remember that the top five on the Alps Tour Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn a HotelPlanner Tour card for 2027. It’s one of Alperi’s major goals. For now, so to speak, he’s been a professional for only a short time (only seven events counting for the world ranking) and is already giving very good indications of what he can do. In the meantime, he will keep knocking on the door
