A three-putt on the final hole of the tournament prevented Miguel Ángel Jiménez (-10) from fighting until the last moment for his third victory of the season on the PGA Tour Champions. It happened on the final day of the Insperity Invitational, held at the The Woodlands Country Club course in Texas, just over three hours from where Scottie Scheffler delivered an incredible performance.
Jiménez reached the final hole of the championship tied for the lead with Stewart Cink (-11), who was already in the clubhouse, and Retief Goosen (-11), who was playing behind the Spaniard. A birdie would have put him in first place alone, a par would have at least secured a playoff with Cink, and a bogey would have left him out of the fight.
The golfer from Churriana missed the fairway on the 18th hole, and the ball didn’t land in a particularly favourable position. From there, he hit a great shot, bounced on the green, in line with the flag, but from the tall grass, it came out very loose and ended up at the back, off the green, just in the first cut. He decided to putt. It came up a bit short, leaving him with a little over two metres for par. He made a great putt, but it broke less to the right than expected and skimmed past the hole. A cruel ending.
Jiménez had put himself in contention with a great final round of 70 strokes. The highlight of his round was on the 15th hole. The Andalusian hit two spectacular shots on this par 5, leaving himself an eagle chance from about four metres. He made it. That put him in first place alone. Later, Cink and Goosen would tie him, and he would fall out of the tie with that final bogey on the 18th hole. A shame.

In any case, another extraordinary week for Jiménez in this fantastic year 2025. He already has two victories, a second place, and two thirds. That is, he has played eight tournaments, and in four of them, half, he has finished in the top three. Sensational. In fact, despite not winning, he remains firmly in first place in the Charles Schwab Cup, the order of merit of the PGA Tour Champions.
Stewart Cink took the victory on the first playoff hole against Goosen. It’s his second win on the Champions.
The next event will be the Regions Tradition in two weeks, the first Major of the year on the Champions Tour. Jiménez arrives in spectacular form.
