Pablo Ereño has achieved his first individual victory in the NCAA of the United States at The Tindall, a tournament held at Aldarra Golf Club (Sammamish, Washington).
The current world university champion, who plays for the UCLA team, co-led the classification with eleven strokes under par as a result of three superb rounds of 66, 70, and 66. In those 54 holes, he only made two mistakes: one bogey and one double bogey. With these results, Ereño and Davis Johnson (Utah) were one stroke ahead of fellow Madrid native Sergio Jiménez (Utah).
With this victory, Pablo Ereño has allowed UCLA to win for the first time since October of last year.
Additionally, the same weekend that Josele Ballester won in Olympia, fellow Madrid native Álvaro Portillo, enrolled in the New Mexico university team, won the William H. Tucker Invitational. With rounds of 66, 69, and 73, Portillo tied at the top with -8 with his teammate Carson Herron. On the third playoff hole, with a birdie, he secured his first university title.
Sergio Jiménez opened the way
The Madrid golfer Sergio Jiménez achieved the first Spanish victory of the season with great brilliance in mid-September. At the Palouse Collegiate, he opened his university-level record and, in the process, contributed to his university, Utah, winning for the first time since 2021.
