Just a few days after the ANWA champion made her debut in the Majors with her participation in the Chevron Championship, it turns out that Paula Martín and Carolina López Chacarra have secured their participation in the Women’s US Open. They achieved this on Monday in the qualifiers held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco and at the Duke University Golf Club in North Carolina. Nearly 80 players participated in California and 70 in Durham, with only three spots and two spots available, respectively. Paula finished in third place on her own, and Carolina won her qualifier. It will be the debut for both in the majors.
At the Olympic, Paula’s fellow countrywoman and Stanford teammate, Andrea Revuelta, finished in fourth place and is the first reserve for this qualifier. The cyclone of the fighters. The qualifier in San Francisco was very tough, as is customary for this US Open venue. The top two were Emily Odwin from Barbados and Sarah Lim from the United States, with scores of -3. The qualifier is played over two rounds of 18 holes on the same day. Paula Martín finished with -2, after carding rounds of 72 and 68. Meanwhile, Revuelta signed for 69 and 72 and finished fourth on her own with one under par. Only these four golfers managed to beat the course. The fifth-placed player finished with +1.
Meanwhile, Carolina won her qualifier with two rounds of 71 and 69 for a total of -4. She won by one stroke over Andie Smith, who also secured her spot. The Spaniard was the only one to achieve two rounds under par. Impressive. A new demonstration of how well she is doing in her final year at university. In the same qualifier, Anna Cañadó did not manage to qualify, with rounds of 79 and 71.
As it stands, we have four Spanish players already confirmed for the US Open, which will be played at Erin Hills from 29 May to 1 June. They are Carlota Ciganda, Carla Bernat, Carolina López Chacarra, and Paula Martín. We will see if Andrea Revuelta can also enter as the first reserve. Moreover, there are still many qualifiers to be played, and there is the option to qualify through the LPGA or the LET. Many doors are open to increase the contingent of Spanish players in the second major of the year.
So far, nine qualifiers have been held, and 17 remain, including the European one, which is being played today in Italy with the presence of three Spanish players: Luna Sobrón, Marta Martín, and María Parra. Two spots are available for the US Open.
Other Spanish players who have already participated in the qualifiers held and have not secured their spot are: Cata Fernández, who withdrew yesterday after the first round at the St Clair Country Club course, Julia Ballester, Constanza Guerrero, Paula Francisco, Teresa Toscano, and Carla Tejedo.
