Paula Martín Sampedro (-7) has signed off with a great finish and claimed the Bruin Wave Invitational in Valencia, California. She did it on the 18th hole, with a birdie worth its weight in gold, earning her third collegiate title with Stanford.
She prevailed precisely on the final hole against her friend and teammate, Andrea Revuelta (-6). A duel in California between the two Madrilenians. The reality is that in the last three holes, three players from Stanford were sharing the top of the leaderboard, separated by a whisker. Paula arrived with a slight advantage, with Andrea pressing and Meja Örtengren (-5) also in the mix.
Andrea and Örtengren made bogey on the 16th and fell two shots behind. The Swede faltered again on the 17th and dropped back. When it seemed Paula had it in her grasp, Andrea, however, did not give in and on the 18th, a long par five, she conjured an eagle to tie for the lead. Paula needed a birdie to win outright and she did so without hesitation. Birdie on the 18th. Title for her with a total of seven under par.
This victory is another step towards the Number One spot in the World Amateur Rankings. Paula is second and closes the gap even more with Kiara Romero, the current leader of the world rankings. In the last four events, she hasn’t finished outside the top 5 (win, second, fifth, and second). Not bad at all. Andrea also extends her good form and remains third in the world, seeking to make her move. With her victory, Paula becomes the tenth player in Stanford’s history to achieve three collegiate wins. Not bad at all. Andrea Revuelta joined this select club just a few weeks ago.
Stanford thus confirms its superiority. It has dominated the team tournament with an iron fist and counts its appearances this year with victories. Four tournaments at the start of 2026 and four wins.
