Paula Martín (-23) has been crowned 2025 European Individual Champion. The Spaniard triumphed this Saturday, precisely against another Spaniard, Balma Dávalos (-22), thanks to a great final birdie on the 72nd hole of the tournament to secure the continental title that has been contested this week at the Frankfurter Golf Club (Frankfurt am Main, Germany).
What an incredible achievement by the young Spanish player. Just over a month ago, she was crowned champion of the British Amateur, three weeks later she won with Spain the European Team Championship and barely fifteen days later she crowns a dream summer with the European Individual Championship.
It is an unprecedented feat, no one in history had won the British Amateur, European Team Championship, and the Individual in the same summer. Until this Saturday, the only player who had done the double of British Amateur and European Individual Champion in the same year was another compatriot, Belén Mozo back in 2006. At that time, the team tournament was biennial and was not played. Paula takes the honours of a historic treble.
A treble also on the tournament podium. It has been a memorable team performance by the Spanish players. If two years ago Julia López and Carla Bernat occupied the top two positions in the tournament, this time the entire podium has been absolutely Spanish. Paula won by one stroke over Balma Dávalos (-22) and two more than her great friend Andrea Revuelta (-21).
With this victory, Paula becomes the seventh Spaniard in history to win this prestigious tournament. Another milestone in the career of a player who shows signs of something very big. The protégé of Alejandro Larrazábal is barely twenty years old and her record is already impressive.
It was a nail-biting finish. Balma was leading by one stroke with two holes to go. The player from Castellón had a good final stretch with two birdies just before, but she couldn’t take advantage of either of the two final par fives that close the course. In the last two flags, Paula raised her arm, turned the tables, and with two birdies secured the final victory. She scored -16 in the last two rounds. Final round of 67 strokes, par 73, and victory in the bag. Her friend and university teammate, Andrea Revuelta, finished third, delivering an identical final card to Paula. The fellow Madrid native stumbled on the 14th hole and saw her chances diminish.
Paula was already exempt for the Women’s Open next week thanks to her victory in the British, so she will not receive that exemption as she already had that spot guaranteed.
