Breaking news and the kind we like to tell. Big news indeed. Ángel Ayora will debut next week on the PGA Tour and more specifically at the Puerto Rico Open. Great news for the Andalusian who has received an invitation to the tournament that takes place from March 7 to 10 in Río Grande.
Barely any time after his arrival yesterday from the South African tour of the Challenge Tour in which he has played three of the four tournaments that were up for grabs and with just a couple of days to recover, Ángel embarks on another journey that he undoubtedly makes with the greatest enthusiasm. Pleasure doesn’t itch, says the saying, and it could well apply in this particular case.
Ayora himself has acknowledged to TenGolf that he is still on cloud nine: “The truth is that it is a dream come true, being able to play a tournament of that caliber with those players I am sure I will learn a lot and I will try to enjoy it like a little boy”. A dream built on hard work.
The trajectory of the player from La Cañada who has only been a professional for five months is also not going unnoticed on the other side of the pond and next week he will have the opportunity to debut and learn from the best players in the world at just 19 years old. In recent months Ayora has shown what he is capable of, for example by winning at his home the first phase of the DP World Tour School with great authority and finishing third in the penultimate phase. In addition, in the two European Circuit tournaments in Australia at the beginning of the season, last year’s absolute male European team champion was able to sneak into the top 35 in both tournaments. In his start at the Challenge he has already had two serious chances of victory. We repeat that he is only 19 years old and has played five tournaments as a professional.
Ángel knows that his day to day is different now but that opportunities like this cannot be missed. He will not be able to play the mini tour of the Challenge in India, but unless there is a big surprise, as soon as the Challenge resumes in April in Abu Dhabi he will be there.
