Cameron Young became this Saturday the thirteenth player in the history of the PGA Tour to shoot under 60 strokes. He did it on the third day of the Travelers Championship, after handing in a card of 59 strokes at the TPC River Highlands.
The start of his round was a harbinger that something significant might occur. He started with a five-under par on the first four holes, with three birdies and an eagle. He signed two more birdies on holes 8 and 9, for a seven-under par on the first nine, and finished with one more birdie on 13, an exceptional eagle on 15, hitting the green from the tee and leaving himself a one and a half meter putt, and a final birdie on 17 to finish the job. Before, on 16 he had already left a good birdie option. Seven birdies and two eagles. Eleven under on a par 70 for a total of 59.
Cameron Young has gone from teeing off in the eleventh match of the day, with a total of two under par, eleven strokes from the lead, to tying with Tom Kim at -13 even before the Korean went out to play. This is a moving day and the rest is nonsense. By the way, he played with Jordan Spieth, who was a direct witness to the exhibition.
