Jorge Campillo (-11) will have a very good opportunity this Sunday in Texas to fight for the result in the THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson that will help him start to steer his goal of retaining his playing rights on the PGA Tour for the next season. The Extremaduran golfer could not seal the dreamed ‘moving day’ to get into the fight for victory, but with a good round of 69 strokes, and showing more successes than mistakes, he is only two shots away from the top 10 positions in the classification.
The Spanish golfer, with quite solid golf, was better from the tee this Saturday than in previous days. And although he could not maintain the extraordinary level of play with the irons that he showed on Friday, where he led the statistic in the approach shots to green, and made some unnecessary mistakes, such as chip from the edge of green on the 2, where he got his first bogey, the tee shot on the par three of the 4, also closed with bogey, or the three-putt on the 14 after taking it to the green from the tee, he knew how to react to beat the field for the third consecutive day and stay very alive in the tournament.

Campillo made birdies at 3, 9, 11, 13 and 17, playing by the book and sinking some really good putts. And if anything can be reproached in this third round at the TPC Craig Ranch it might be the way he solved holes 16 and 18. On the par four of his penultimate flag of the day, after seeing how his ball ended up on the slope of the street bunker, forcing him to ‘lose’ a stroke recovering, he made his third and last bogey of the day with a putt that made a tie and did not want to enter. And on the 18, he wasted a great birdie option from two meters.
Two lost strokes that, undoubtedly, would have changed his perspective a lot for Sunday. A final round in which, with no margin for error, he will try to combine his solidity with today’s driver, his game around yesterday’s green and a little more efficiency with the putter to try to climb from the tied 28th position he occupies after 54 holes. The leader, Canadian Taylor Pendrith (-19), and his immediate pursuers, Jake Knapp (-18), Ben Kholes (-17) and Matt Wallace (-17) are far away, but from the fifth position downwards, everyone is within reach if Jorge is able to play at his best level.
