Not all was bad news for Jorge Campillo this Monday, who competed and did not pass the preliminary round of the US Open held at the London course of Walton Heath. The Extremaduran golfer received confirmation from the PGA Tour that he had entered the Charles Schawb Challenge, a tournament that starts this Thursday at Colonial Country Club. So, from London to Texas without passing go.
This is very good news, as initially Campillo thought he was not going to get into Colonial. In fact, last Friday, the day when the entry list of the PGA Tour tournaments for the following week are usually published, the Spanish golfer appeared as the second reserve. Obviously, the final results of the PGA Championship have caused some changes in plans, last-minute dropouts and finally Campillo has been able to enter.
Playing Colonial is especially exciting for the golfer from Norba. He has very good memories of when he was invited to Ben Hogan’s course as one of the finalists of the Ben Hogan Award, an award that Jon Rahm, for example, received twice. With his good result in Myrtle Beach, the possibility of playing Colonial and also his entry into Canada, an attractive horizon opens up for him, as he could qualify for the Memorial, as long as he does very well the next two weeks and, even, pushing the envelope, he could get into the US Open via the top 60 worldwide.
