The winner of the Wyndham Championship is now known. Englishman Aaron Rai has achieved his first victory on the PGA Tour. However, and as a curiosity, the tournament has not been completed because there is a player who must complete the final hole at Sedgefield Country Club.

The last group of a true golf marathon that was experienced this Sunday at the Wyndham was made up of Chad Ramey, Max Greyserman and Matt Kuchar. Having finished the second round this Sunday and played the entire third round that same morning, their fourth round match had started at 15:21 local time. As the holes progressed, the light was diminishing and by the time they reached hole 18, visibility was scarce.

When teeing off, the three players were offered the opportunity to finish the tournament on Monday. Ramey and Gresyserman declined the proposal, but Kuchar did decide to mark his ball 190 meters from the flag and finish the tournament on Monday.

It is somewhat surprising the decision when the player was not playing for anything beyond the possibility of finishing in the top 10 if he achieved the birdie. He was within his rights and he did. The tournament has not ended until Matt Kuchar plays his last hole today. A Tour official will keep score for him.

With this result and regardless of how he finishes today, Matt Kuchar ends a dizzying streak. The American had been qualifying for the FedExCup playoffs for 17 consecutive years. He needed a victory that he flirted with at times, but a discreet final round has prevented him from fighting for the win he needed.
