The PGA Tour University expands its benefits for the future. Five more university golfers from the Division I and the best player from the Division II will be eligible to obtain membership of the PGA Tour Americas starting from 2024, as announced this Tuesday.
From the class of 2024, five more players (now 25 in total) will obtain performance benefits based on their position in the PGA Tour’s university ranking. Players who finish from 11th to 25th (previously from 11th to 20th) will obtain an exempt membership in the PGA Tour Americas for the rest of the current season and will be exempt in the second stage of the PGA Tour School.
In addition, starting from 2024, a junior or senior who wins the D-II Jack Nicklaus award (National Player of the Year) will obtain the same benefits as the players who finish from 11th to 25th in the PGA Tour U. Such player will be able to accept their benefits upon concluding their university career, which means that a junior who wins the NCAA Division II can accept the benefits after their senior season.
“As the PGA Tour University continues to grow, the channel from university golf to the PGA Tour is strengthened,” said the executive director of the PGA Tour University, Brendan von Doehren. “The best university players have shown that they are ready to compete against the best in the world, and these improvements to the PGA Tour University ensure that at least five more deserving players will start their careers as members of the PGA Tour Americas each year.”
This year, Ludvig Aberg became the first player to win a PGA Tour card as a result of finishing first in the PGA Tour U ranking. Now, more players will have opportunities to win their cards in other ways.
