– Thorbjorn Olesen (-14) has seized the lead at the 3M Open after the second round. The 35-year-old Danish player is seeking his first victory on the PGA Tour and, in doing so, to re-enter the Ryder Cup debate at Bethpage. His name has lost momentum recently, but there’s no doubt that a win could change things. He was there and performed very well at the Ryder Cup in Paris, so he doesn’t have much to prove.
– Olesen has a one-shot lead over Jake Knapp (-13), a golfer accustomed to appearing at the top when conditions are ripe for many birdies, and two over Pierceson Coody (-11) and Sam Stevens (-11), another player quietly putting together a more than interesting season.
– In fifth place are the German Matti Schmid (-10) or Chris Kirk (-10), two men fighting for their presence in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This week they are stepping up, but they must keep the pedal to the metal to reach their goal. If you lose focus at TPC Twin Cities, you lose a lot of ground, as happened to Adam Svensson (-7). He was the leader with an impressive round of 60, a course record, and today he is beyond 30th place with a second-round score of 75.
– The cut has gone to a very demanding -5 and has left out players like Ben An, Patrick Rodgers, Keith Mitchell, or Toni Finau (first missed cut since the Masters), golfers who thus complicate their future to be in the Playoffs or get into the 2026 Designated events. Maverick McNealy, the best player in the tournament by world ranking, is also out.
– Those still in the fight to get into the Playoffs are Adam Scott (-6), Tom Kim (-6), or Max Homa (-8), although they need a great weekend for this surpassed cut not to end in vain.
