The world number 1 and 2024 FedExCup champion, Scottie Scheffler, has withdrawn from the tournament that kicks off the 2025 PGA Tour season, The Sentry, which will take place next week, from 2 to 5 January, at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.
The reason for his absence has been explained in a statement by the tour: “On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie suffered a puncture wound in the palm of his right hand with a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm that required surgery. He has been told he should be 100% in three or four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is the American Express.”
The information has been provided by Blake Smith, Scottie Scheffler’s manager. The full field for The Sentry will be announced today, 27 December, after the commitment deadline. A first event of 2025 that loses the tour’s big star.
