The PGA Tour has issued a statement this Thursday in which, “focusing on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles” and thanking “the efforts” to save lives from the tragic wildfires ravaging the area, it has made a definitive decision regarding the Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods and TGR.

Specifically, it states that in collaboration with the tournament organisation and the Riviera Country Club, it has been determined that, “out of respect for the situation,” the tournament will be played “at an alternative venue the week of 10 to 16 February.” The PGA Tour indicates that “updated information on the venue and event will be provided in the coming days,” while assuring that it will continue to seek “the best way in which the tournament can support the Los Angeles community.”

This decision was anticipated, especially after statements from Tiger Woods himself this week in which he could not guarantee that the Genesis Invitational would take place at its usual location. It is the seventh event of the season on the circuit, included among the so-called Designated Events, distributing 20 million dollars in prizes and 700 FedEx Cup points.
