Steven Fisk (-24) was the main threat to Garrick Higgo (-22) in the final stages of the Sanderson Farms Championship, the second tournament of the autumn schedule of the PGA Tour held from Thursday to Sunday at the Country Club of Jackson. He had never won a tournament on the American circuit, where he was enjoying his rookie season. But there was much more at stake than just the title because he did not have his card guaranteed for 2026. A double incentive that he maximised to complete a brilliant and thrilling comeback this Sunday that undoubtedly changes his life.
The 28-year-old golfer from Atlanta, educated at Georgia Southern University, arrived at the tournament ranked 135th in the FedEx Cup, far from the top 100 places that guarantee playing rights for the next season. In his first year on the tour, which he joined after a spectacular campaign on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024 with one victory and two runner-up finishes, he had missed almost half of the cuts and had only managed to finish once in the top 10, at the Puerto Rico Open. But this afternoon, he shed his complexes with birdies to turn his situation around 180 degrees.

Matching the best card of his career on the PGA Tour, with 64 strokes resulting from nine birdies, three in a row on the last three holes, and a single bogey, he managed to recover the two-stroke deficit with which he started the day compared to Higgo and ended up winning by two strokes. He didn’t even need to be among the best from the tee. With his good play around the green and extraordinary accuracy with the putter on the greens, he was able, first, to overtake the South African, with whom he shared the match, and then, to withstand the pressure on the final flags.
Because Garrick, despite an erratic start to his round, with three birdies and three bogeys in his first 12 holes, achieved a spectacular series of four consecutive birdies between the 13th and 16th that seemed to propel him towards the title, making good his specialty of winning events where the big stars are absent. But it was not to be, as two stunning approach shots from Fisk, leaving it just over half a metre on the par-four 17th for birdie and a metre on the 18th, also to gain one last stroke on the course and seal his triumph in style, left him tantalisingly close.

Fisk secures playing rights for 2026 and 2027, takes home a cheque worth $1,080,000, almost double the money he had earned across his previous 22 tournaments on the tour this season, and, as if that weren’t enough, makes a huge leap in the overall circuit standings, moving to 65th place. A victory that will also have a significant impact on his position in the OWGR, where he started the week as the world’s 183rd-ranked player. A new life for Steven in a corner of the state of Mississippi that he will never forget.
The final 18 holes also served for Rasmus Hojgaard (-19), with a final round of 66 strokes, to secure his continuity on the PGA Tour next season. He shared third place with Vince Whaley (-19), who enters the coveted top 100 of the FedEx, and with Danny Walker (-19), who also sneaks into the card zone. The Frenchman Victor Perez (-15) is gradually approaching the target, and the Dane Thorbjorn Olesen (-14), among others, will have to keep fighting from next week, when the tour moves to Japan.
