The veteran American golfer Davis Love III, a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour, is recovering at his home in Florida after undergoing heart surgery to “resolve a valve issue that doctors had been monitoring for the past 10 years,” as revealed by Jim Nantz, a CBS broadcaster.
The journalist provided the information live during the broadcast of the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend. “I just want to send our best wishes and those of everyone in the golfing world. We are with you, Davis Love III,” he said. The player later confirmed in a statement that “the operation was a success and I am now at home recovering, I went in healthy and came out healthier.”
“I am very grateful for all the good wishes, prayers, and messages I have received. I have been blessed with great care at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Dr. John R. Cangemi, Dr. David J. Cangemi, and Dr. Peter M. Pollak guided me to this surgery with Dr. John Haney. I am thankful for their expertise and care, and I am motivated to prove them right and return to playing golf this summer,” detailed the golfer.
Love III, aged 60, was captain of the Ryder Cup for the United States in 2012 and 2016 and also led his country to glory in the Presidents Cup in 2022. The 1997 PGA Championship winner was also vice-captain to Zach Johnson during the 2023 Ryder Cup defeat in Rome. Currently, the veteran player, with nearly 800 tournaments played on the PGA Tour, has a much more relaxed schedule. He has played four times in the last two seasons on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, achieving a top 10.
