Viktor Hovland is going to try by all means to play the Sentry Tournament taking place this week, from 2nd to 5th January, in Kapalua. The Norwegian announced two days ago that he had broken the little toe on his right foot. All alarms went off. A collision with the edge of the bed seems to have been the cause of the mishap. Edge of the bed: 1 – Me: 0, the 2023 Tour Championship winner posted jokingly.Although he remained on the tournament’s entry list, it was not at all clear that the 27-year-old player would even fly to Maui. Hovland has confirmed that he will try: “I hope that the bandage and painkillers will be enough to face the week without excessive problems,” he revealed to colleagues at Eurosport Norway.

After a 2024 to forget, the golf world hopes the Norwegian regains his best form. Despite his third place in the PGA Championship, last year he barely added another top ten in the American circuit, and he didn’t play any tournament in the European autumn. His presence in Maui was therefore one of the tournament’s great attractions. Viktor himself is seeking the form he showed two seasons ago, and if that means playing with a broken toe, he has no qualms about doing so. We must wait to see if in the coming hours the pain increases or the medication takes effect and the Norwegian can train with some normality in the days leading up to the start of the season on the American circuit. What is clear is that he will not be able to play in the best conditions.

Since last season, the Sentry is no longer an exclusive tournament for the previous season’s winners but also includes the top fifty of the FedEx Cup. That is the category by which the Norwegian is qualified to compete in the tournament at the Plantation Course in Kapalua. If he is ultimately unable to participate, the field will remain at 59 players.

The one who will definitely not be participating is Scottie Scheffler. The Number One announced two days ago on social media that he had to undergo a minor surgical procedure after cutting his hand with a glass on Christmas Day. As he himself announced, we will see him back on the courses at the American Express.
