Last February, Tiger Woods, after a lifetime of collaboration with Nike (27 years of partnership), introduced his new brand Sun Day Red. Now, in collaboration with TaylorMade, he is about to embark on the official launch of the line with the same name. An attire he wore at the Genesis Invitational, in February.
At the Masters he repeated his new ‘look’ and for the first time in decades he walked the streets of Augusta National without the Nike logo on his chest. Last night, in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on television, he explained where the idea of wearing red on Sundays came from, a choice that seems to have worked for him and that curiously, comes from his mother.
“The story of the red is good. It comes from my mother. My mother thought that, being a Capricorn or whatever, it was the color of power, or something like that. I ended up wearing red and won some junior golf tournaments. So, to annoy her, I dressed in blue and didn’t win those tournaments, so I found out that my mother was always right,” said Tiger.
But perhaps the most interesting thing about his visit to the set of this famous ‘night talk’ on American television was when Fallon showed a photo of Tiger shaking hands with Verne Lundquist (American sports commentator) at hole 16 of the Masters. A snapshot in which, from the angle it was taken, it seems that Woods was shaking an arm that protruded from behind a tree.
The memes didn’t take long to arrive after that photo, Fallon made sure to remind Tiger and the Californian, with a sense of humor, said: “What happened?”.
