Tiger Woods has not been seen in the fight with the top in the Hero World Challenge, a tournament in which he returned to competition after more than seven months of absence. But that, right now, seems the least of it. In fact, despite the irregularity of his game and having finished with a PAR accumulated in the 72 holes, the one from Cypress believes that he could have reached a double-digit under par record with relative ease simply by playing a little better the par 5s of the Albany Golf Club. Indeed, in the long holes of the Bahamas course (there are five per round, for a total of twenty) Tiger has signed a partial of -3, while the winner, Scottie Scheffler, was going to an accumulated of -12.
Beyond the result, Tiger needed to see himself again in competition and check how his right ankle responds to the shaking of the four rounds. He had pointed out in the days leading up to the tournament that, if everything went as expected, he might even be able to consider a schedule with one tournament a month in 2024. Well, once the 72 holes were completed, Woods has remained in the same idea: “I think I can keep that pace. One week to compete, two to recover and another to work before playing again… Right now there is no reason why I can’t get into that rhythm. Now it’s just a matter of getting in better shape. I feel like my game is not that far off or off, I just need to get in better shape”.
An excellent news, no doubt, that confirms the best expectations. Then, it will be a matter of seeing if he can really set himself looking at the victory again. This man, of course, seems capable of it, as long as he can really keep that pace, without further stops.
