Tiger Woods is far from being in the necessary shape to be competitive on the PGA Tour. He said so last week at the Hero World Challenge, his tournament, where he did not participate. However, competing with his son Charlie in the PNC Championship, the parent-child tournament held annually in Orlando, is worth the effort. This Tuesday, the tournament confirmed that the Woods will participate for the fifth consecutive year.

It should be noted that this tournament is played over two rounds and players can use a buggy, which is why Tiger has decided to take part. If it were four days and walking, it would be impossible after the latest back surgery he underwent a few months ago and from which he is still recovering. In any case, his presence is good news, as it means he doesn’t have major problems hitting shots and accompanying his son. What the Californian was not going to do under any circumstances is play to struggle. So, he must be at least minimally well from a physical standpoint, at least to make the swing…

The best result for the Woods in this tournament was a second place in 2021. This year doesn’t seem the best to surpass it. Another attraction, without a doubt, will be observing the evolution of Charlie’s golf, who each year has provided some of the most entertaining and interesting moments of this relaxed exhibition tournament. Tiger Woods hasn’t played since the Open Championship. In the last three tournaments he played, all Majors, he missed the cut. In the Masters, he did manage to play all four days.

Alongside the Woods, the tournament has confirmed the participation of the Harringtons, both Paddy, father and son. Another two good additions. The tournament will be held from 19 to 22 December at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club.

Woods, a 15-time majors winner, commented: “I am very excited to return to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie. Playing together is always more special when you are surrounded by friends and family.”

Among the participants, they have won 69 Majors, 40 senior titles, and more than 1,000 international titles. This year, the Couples and Immelman teams are debuting. The youngest player is Will McGee, 13 years old, son of Annika Sorenstam, while the “most experienced” is Gary Player at 89 years old. Four years younger than Player is Lee Trevino, 85 years old, the only one who has played all 26 editions of the PNC Championship.
