Another blow for Tiger Woods and his fans in the form of a physical setback. The Californian, who underwent surgery last September for a back issue and was operated on again in March for a ruptured Achilles tendon, will have to postpone his potential return to competition for a few more months due to a new injury. The player himself confirmed the news in a medical statement published on his social media accounts.
Woods explained what happened as follows: “After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with doctors and surgeons to have tests taken. The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc at L4/5, disc fragments, and a compromised spinal canal. Yesterday I decided to undergo a disc replacement, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

Woods underwent a disc replacement surgery on Friday in his L4/5 lumbar spine to treat the symptoms in that area. The surgery was deemed a success and was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The statement does not specify a recovery timeline, but for this type of injury, returning to high-level competition typically takes between six months and a year, depending on various factors.
