Tiger Woods has been involved this Friday in a rollover road traffic accident that occurred in Jupiter Island, in the state of Florida (United States), where he resides. The incident, as reported by several media outlets in his country, took place shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time, according to the sheriff’s office of Martin County. The golfer has been arrested by the authorities.

According to initial reports from local outlets such as CBS 12 News, two vehicles were involved in the crash. One of the people involved was in stable condition, while another had refused to be taken to hospital. Emergency services sources indicated that, in principle, no serious injuries had been recorded.

The crash occurred a short distance from Woods‘s own home, in an area with a 30 miles per hour speed limit. The circumstances of the incident were initially unclear, although shortly afterwards sheriff John Budensiek appeared before the media to give an official update on what happened. It was then that the Californian’s arrest was confirmed.

“These are the details we have so far. Today, shortly before 2:00 p.m., the Jupiter Island Police Department received a report of a rollover crash that occurred about two and a half miles from our current location. On arrival, officers found a pickup truck towing a pressure-washing unit and a Land Rover overturned onto the driver’s side,” the sheriff began.

“From the start of the investigation, there were indications that the driver of the Land Rover might have been under the influence of some substance. Because of this, the chief of the Jupiter police requested the assistance of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, as we have greater experience in handling this type of road traffic accident and related investigations,” he added.
“Our investigation determined the following: shortly before the incident, the pickup truck with the trailer was travelling north along South Beach Road and was attempting to turn into a driveway. The driver of that vehicle saw in his rear-view mirror that a dark-coloured Land Rover was approaching at speed. Noticing that the vehicle would catch up with him, he tried to pull over, but the road is narrow and has no verge. At the last moment, the Land Rover swerved sharply to avoid a head-on collision, but struck the rear of the trailer, lost its balance and ended up overturning onto the driver’s door. The individual at the wheel managed to exit through the passenger door and was identified as Mr. Tiger Woods,” he confirmed.
“Our specialists in detaining drivers under the influence (DUI) attended the scene and confirmed that Mr. Woods was showing signs of impairment. After carrying out various on-site sobriety tests, and taking into account his previous injuries and surgeries, it was determined that he was not fit to drive. Consequently, he was under arrest and taken to the Martin County jail,” he concluded. According to various media outlets, Tiger is reported to have tested negative for alcohol, but reportedly refused to submit to a urine test, and was arrested.

Tiger ya sufrió un grave accidente hace cinco años

This new incident inevitably revives the memory of the serious crash that Tiger Woods suffered in February 2021, when his vehicle was completely destroyed and the golfer came close to losing his right leg, in one of the toughest episodes of his career and personal life.

Awaiting further details on the next steps to be taken, concern grows for the 15-time major winner, who is trying to recover from his latest injury with the aim of returning to competition. The Masters at Augusta, which Donald Trump revealed he would not take part in, but which Tiger had planned to attend, now takes a back seat after this new scare on the road and the subsequent police arrest.
