La TGL, the innovative exhibition league driven by Tiger Woods and Rory, announced its full schedule for the inaugural year this Monday.

The schedule includes fifteen regular season matches, followed by semi-finals with the top four teams, and a season finale with two teams competing to win the SoFi Cup in a best-of-three series (Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th March).

After a year’s delay due to the demolition of part of the stadium where the competition will be held, a project with much anticipation and investment finally sees the light, featuring a very innovative format. At first glance, it is surprising that the league’s two biggest stars, Rory and Tiger, will not compete in the first week.

The competition will kick off on 7th January with a match between New York Golf Club (Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young) against Bay Golf Club (Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee and Shane Lowry).

Tiger Woods and his Jupiter Links Golf Club will not compete until the following week, 14th January, while Rory McIlroy and his Boston Common Golf will not play until 27th January when they will face Tiger’s team.

As acknowledged by the organisers, it is expected that the first week will have the appeal of the league’s debut, and therefore Tiger will debut in the second round, giving another boost to the competition.

The competition will therefore run from January to March and will be broadcast in prime time on ESPN.
