This Tuesday, 5 November 2024, the presidential elections in the United States are taking place. And Donald Trump, one of the candidates, has taken the opportunity to have a short break from his intense campaign to talk about one of his favourite sports, golf. He did so by launching one of his famous challenges, claiming he could get the PGA Tour and the Saudi Investment Fund to reach an agreement in “15 minutes” if he manages to return to the White House.

The former president, aged 78, shared his thoughts on these negotiations, which have been ongoing for several months, on a podcast known as ‘Let’s Go!‘, as reported by Bunkered. The PGA Tour and the PIF are in advanced talks, but apparently, the truce seems to have encountered a small obstacle in the Department of Justice of the United States regarding a jurisdiction issue. The green light from the DOJ might depend on who occupies the famous Oval Office.

Trump has organised five LIV Golf events at his courses and now, as he accelerates the race to become the 47th president of the United States ahead of his rival, Kamala Harris, he believes he has the solution: “Well, to be honest, first I’m going to work on other things, I think we have much bigger problems in this country than golf. But I do think we should have a tour where the best players are.”

“When Scottie wins or when the guys win on the other tour, they have a lot of great rivals. But it would be nice if everyone could play together. It’s terrible that some of them miss out on a major. But of course, they are very happy with Saudi. They really are, if you talk to them you realise they are convinced of their decision. They earned more money than they probably ever dreamed of, received cheques, in some cases, of hundreds of millions of dollars. So it’s hard to think they won’t be happy about not being able to play in a certain place. That’s not so important,” he added.

“But I think, ultimately, everything will work out. Yes, without a doubt, I think I could help, I could achieve it. I’d say it wouldn’t take me more than 15 minutes to close the deal,” said Trump, who is hoping tonight to lead his country again… before seeing if he really can solve the ‘war’ of the global golf tours. Reality or bravado? We shall see.
