The Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of the longest courses of the season on the PGA Tour. At 7,626 yards (almost seven kilometres), the American course will become a true test of fire from this Thursday for the world’s best players, who are seeking victory in the second major of the season, the PGA Championship. But in addition to the complexities of the course, the weather could have a significant impact on the leaderboard.

For now, as happened last month at the Masters, the tournament week kicks off with rain. Rain is expected on the course this Monday. The tournament organisers announced early in the morning that all 18 holes and the practice area are operational for players from eight in the morning, as is the press centre. However, due to the poor conditions expected today, Monday, the public will not be allowed entry to the venue. Staff, suppliers, the press, and workers will have access as needed.

Things won’t improve much on Tuesday as thunderstorms are expected and the chance of rain is close to 60%. This wet element will gradually move away from Quail Hollow as the week progresses, with showers on Wednesday and some scattered rain both on Friday, the day the second round is played, and on Saturday, where very cloudy skies are expected on the famous ‘moving day’, with winds of nearly 20 kilometres per hour.

On Sunday, however, things improve considerably, with partly cloudy skies but no threat of rain, at least according to the forecasts provided by meteorological services at the start of the week. Humidity, however, will be high, which also affects the ball’s flight, so with a long course, we will witness a ‘cocktail’ of complications that will undoubtedly make things challenging for players seeking victory in the second Major of 2025.
