Just three days after concluding his time at Quail Hollow, where last week the PGA Championship, the second major of the season, was held, Rory McIlroy is back in Europe. The Northern Irishman, who returned home a few days after winning his first Masters in Augusta last April, returns to the Old Continent invited for a very special event involving two English football teams: the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Rory is at the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao tonight to watch the match live between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs as they compete for the title in the second continental tournament. The Red Devils, through their social media profiles, have shared a photo of the current winner of the Green Jacket from Augusta National in one of the VIP boxes at the Athletic Club stadium, posing with a legend of the Old Trafford club, the historic forward Wayne Rooney.

McIlroy is a big football fan and a loyal supporter of Manchester United. His coach, Ruben Amorim, took advantage of one of his latest press conferences to invite the Northern Irish golfer to go to Old Trafford with the Masters trophy and the Green Jacket: “You achieved something that many people thought would be impossible, and we want that feeling in our stadium. So, I hope to see you soon at Old Trafford and meet you.” For now, Rory will try to bring luck to his team tonight at San Mamés.
