The International team has taken the lead in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup after the first day held this Thursday at the Congaree Golf Club course. They lead the scoreboard by 6.5 to 5.5 against the United States. Great performance by the non-American team, with special mention for the Spaniards. Each of the teams is composed of 24 players, twelve boys and twelve girls. Among them, on the international side, we have four Spaniards: Pablo Ereño, Carla Bernat, Carolina López Chacarra, and Andrea Revuelta. Well, out of the three points they contested yesterday in the opening day of mixed fourballs, our players scored 2.5. Undefeated.
Carolina and Pablo played together and clearly defeated Max Herendeen and Isabella McCauley by 3 and 2. A convincing victory also for Andrea Revuelta alongside Connor Graham against Adam Duncan and Macy Pato (4 and 3). Finally, Carla Bernat and Czech Filip Jakubcik tied their hard-fought duel against Jackson Koivun and Kiara Romero.
Today, the second and third rounds will be played. Foursomes in the morning and mixed foursomes in the afternoon, while Saturday will host the final round with the 24 singles. The format of the United States against the Internationals has been held since 2018. Since then, seven editions have been played with a balance of four American victories and three from the rest of the world. In total, across all formats, the competition has been held 27 times with a balance of 14 victories for the United States, 12 for Europe/Great Britain and Ireland/International, and one draw.
The Palmer Cup pits the best NCAA players from the United States.
