The quality test has turned out brilliant. The Armada is ready for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The credentials are on the table. The last trial by fire before the big tournament has been a success. It lacked finishing with a victory, but the demonstration of strength and consistency has been extraordinary. Five of the six Spanish players who will be at the ANWA next week have completed their final test today, with four of them finishing in the top 10 and the worst result being a 19th place. The sixth is Rocío Tejedo, who plays in a couple of days.
The best results have been for Carla Bernat (-3) and Andrea Revuelta (-3). Both finished in third position at the Silicon Valley Showcase in California. They finished just two strokes from victory, which was claimed by Eunseo Choi (-5), after delivering rounds of 69 strokes this Tuesday. Both made four birdies and two bogeys. They mirrored each other throughout the tournament.
Bernat continues to impress. Another great result for the Castellón native from Kansas State this season. Meanwhile, a special mention for Andrea. It was her first tournament after almost four months without competing officially due to a shoulder injury, and the outcome couldn’t have been more positive, fighting for victory until the last holes. Spectacular performance by the Stanford golfer.
On the other hand, at the Charles Schwab Collegiate held at the Colonial Country Club in Texas, Carolina López Chacarra (-3) has once again demonstrated that she is in a very sweet spot in her game. She finished in fifth position, six strokes behind the winner, the left-handed Anna Davis (-9). Carol, from Wake Forest, with whom she achieved the team victory, signed a final round of par, with a birdie right at the start and a bogey at the end.
Speaking of those who will be in Augusta next week, Paula Martín (-1) finished the tournament with a very good round of two under par this Tuesday and secured eighth position, while Cata Fernández (+4) ended in 19th place after scoring +2 on the last day. The weapons are clean and ready for the battle of Augusta.
In the same tournament at Colonial, Balma Dávalos (+7) finished in 28th place, Marta López (+9) was 37th, and Ana Pina (+11) ended in 46th place in a tournament that went from less to more.
Great final round by Josele Ballester at the Valspar
On another note, Josele Ballester finished with a great round at the Valspar Intercollegiate Invitational. The golfer from Castellón bid farewell with a magnificent round of four under par, with five birdies and a single bogey, for a total of -5. He finished in 16th place, with a performance that improved as the tournament progressed. A good way to face the Masters of Augusta, his next big event. In this tournament, the victory went to David Ford, Number One of the PGA Tour University, who will strengthen his position with this result, and Luke Clanton and Jackson Koivun, Numbers One and Two in the world, finished in the top 10.
